Scott's Run: Geocache

A Geo-Cache set that showcased the history of a local community.

About The Project

The goals of this project were to continue building the relationship between WVU design students and Scott’s Run community members, as well as finish the geocaching project began by previous senior design students, who had designed the geocache log books.

My Role

For this project I needed to heavily research geocaching— my project partner Nicole Warn and I were both unfamiliar with geocaching so we had to learn the basics, as well as research how to set up our own geocache. We also studied the history of Scott’s Run, through books and oral histories, and researched what had previously been done by design students to impact this community. I put together each cache and designed their takaway items (small items that are meant to be traded by those who find the cache, like buttons, small packets of coal, coin coal tags, etc.). I also submitted a grant proposal to the Appalachian Community Fund to raise funding for future projects in this community.
